Film Fest Gent presents PRESS PLAY: Music in Games Concert

Composers for screen go beyond writing music for just film and television. In the realm of video games, there are countless wonderful scores to discover. More and more composers no longer distinguish between audiovisual media. Which is why this year's Film Fest Gent music concert is devoted to music in games. On 19 October 2023 in Capitole Gent, you can journey into the world of video game music through the concert PRESS PLAY: Music in Games. Furthermore, the festival is launching a new WSAward: the WSA Game Music Award (voted by the audience).

The concert PRESS PLAY: Music in Games on Thursday 19 October will bring to life the works of renowned composers who have scored for video games, including Grammy-nominated composer Austin Wintory, who is also hosting the show. Wintory is best known for his mesmerising scores for the games Journey and Abzû. His soundtrack for Journey made history in 2013 as the first and only video game score to receive a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media. Brussels Philharmonic will perform the scores live, creating an unforgettable experiences for music and gaming enthusiasts alike. Join us for this symphonic concert highlighting the artistry and creativity of game soundtracks!

Starting in 2023, the festival introduces a brand new WSAward: the WSA Game Music Award, recognising composers who write original scores for video games and/or other interactive media. As video game music has evolved into its own genre, the award aims to celebrate the crucial role music plays in immersing players in virtual worlds. Furthermore, the audience gets to decide: from July onwards everyone can vote for their favourite game score of the year. We can't wait to see who wins the very first WSA Game Music Award!
