Since this film was made to commemorate and pay tribute to Jin Yong's 100th anniversary, director Tsui Hark attached great importance to it and high requirements. In addition, "Guo Jing" is one of the most outstanding martial arts masters in Jin Yong's novels, possessing the unique martial arts skills of subduing the dragon with the Eighteen Palms.

Filming has completed by March and moved to post production. Exact release date depends on the China Film Commission (China Film Group) but expected to be in July.

We regret to hear and inform you that the well known TV presenter from UK, Michael Mosley (age 67) has been found dead on the Greek island of Symi. The exact cause of his death is not known yet but appears he collapsed at a site when he could not be found easily. The search for him has been going for days as he went missing after last seen on a beach.

"I don't know quite where to begin with this. It's devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband. We had an incredibly lucky life together," said his wife, Clare Bailey Mosley. "We loved each other very much and were so happy together. I am incredibly proud of our children, their resilience and support over the past days."

"My family and I have been hugely comforted by the outpouring of love from people from around the world. It's clear that Michael meant a huge amount to so many of you. We're taking comfort in the fact that he so very nearly made it. He did an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed where he couldn't be easily seen by the extensive search team."

News & Media / Japanese superhero Ultraman is...
Last post by FWN Adm - June 10, 2024, 08:57:38 PM
As a Netflix's family-friendly animation, the iconic Japanese superhero returns for a new adventure in 'Ultraman: Rising'

Protecting Japan from fearsome monsters is hard enough: in the appealing animated family film Ultraman: Rising, the titular hero must also contend with being an unlikely surrogate father to one demanding baby kaiju. This English-language charmer boasts vibrant visuals that mostly make up for a fairly pedestrian story about a selfish baseball superstar who begrudgingly accepts his responsibility to be the new Ultraman — and, soon after, the challenge of raising a tiny beast that the authorities want eliminated.

Premiering at Annecy on June 12, Ultraman: Rising starts streaming on Netflix two days later. Balancing action with sentimental messages about loss, maturity and reconciliation, the film should be an ideal introduction for younger viewers to the iconic character who debuted 58 years ago on Japanese television. In 2019, Netflix released the Japanese-language anime series Ultraman, which ran for three seasons, and the ongoing popularity of the franchise is likely to make this a strong streaming option — especially for parents looking to entertain their children at home this summer. The colourful CG images provided by Industrial Light & Magic should also attract animation fans.

News & Media / Hollywood is threatened by ano...
Last post by FWN Adm - June 10, 2024, 08:04:17 PM
Hollywood is being threatened yet with another strike as negotiations begins with yet another union, this time the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE). The IATSE is basically a union that represents the people working in the entertainment industry as support. IATSE was founded in 1893 when representatives of stagehands working in eleven cities met in New York and pledged to support each other's efforts to establish fair wages and working conditions for their members. IATSE has since evolved to embrace the development of new entertainment media, craft expansion, technological innovation and geographic growth.

Today, IATSE members work in all forms of live theater, motion picture and television production, trade shows and exhibitions, television broadcasting, and concerts as well as the equipment and construction shops that support all these areas of the entertainment industry. IATSE represents virtually all the behind the scenes workers in crafts ranging from motion picture animator to theater usher.

The union now want better wages and working conditions for its people and threatens the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which is the same organization that had the strike against just last year by the actors' and the writers' unions. Last year's strike significantly impacted the film and TV industry with many films and TV shows cancelled or postponed for a much later date. Studios and streamers are buying and producing fewer projects. A lot of projects are being filmed out of California and out of the country, resulting in fewer job opportunities for those living in the heart of the entertainment industry.

News & Media / Re: Iranian filmmaker Mohammad...
Last post by FWN Adm - May 22, 2024, 02:25:58 PM
Mohammad Rasoulof stated that he is going to attend the premier of his film THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG at the Cannes Film Festival. Having found asylum in Germany, Cannes' general delegate Thierry Fremaux has now confirmed his attendance. "Our joy will be that of all festival-goers and all freedom-loving Iranians. We would like to reaffirm the support of the Cannes Film Festival for all artists around the world who suffer violence and reprisals in the expression of their art." - said Fremaux.

Separately, a cohort of international filmmakers have called for solidarity with Iran filmmakers including Rasoulof in an open letter that condemns the "continuous systemic criminalisation of artistic freedom". The letter was initiated by Tara Afsah of Komplizen Film and Raquel Kishori Dukpa, Paulina Lorenz and Faraz Shariat of Jünglinge Film alongside Jorgo Narjes of X Filme and Iranian actor and filmmaker Maryam Zaree.

"We condemn the inhumane treatment of Rasoulof, his colleagues and numerous other independent artists in Iran, who are being severely punished, criminalised and silenced for exercising their artistic freedom. We stand in full solidarity with Rasoulof's demands and call upon the international film community to raise our voices against an Islamist dictatorship that systematically oppresses every aspect of their society's lives." - stated the letter signed by many supporters.
