The Ministry of Culture of the Argentine Nation and the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) announce that the 38th edition of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, which will take place from Thursday, November 2 to Sunday, November 12, 2023.

This year marks 40 years of uninterrupted democracy in Argentina, and this edition of the Festival celebrates the consolidation of our fundamental rights, without forgetting those years of civil-military dictatorship in which censorship and authoritarianism turned off the projectors of our beloved Festival, limiting access to cultural diversity and freedom of expression.

Uncensored cinema invites us to meet others and to look at ourselves, to look beyond our individual reality to understand what connects us. This edition will be dedicated to celebrating the conquest of democracy by our people, and the role of cinema in the collective efforts to never again erase our stories.

The Mar del Plata International Film Festival is among the fifteen festivals in the world classified as "Class A" by the International Federation of Film Producers' Associations (FIAPF), a category it shares with Cannes, Venice and San Sebastian, among others, as well as being the only one of its kind in Latin America.

It has seven official competitive sections: International Competition, Latin American Competition and Argentine Competition -the latter divided between short and feature films-, Altered States and In Transit / Work in Progress (WIP). The program is completed with several sections such as Auteurs, Retrospectives, Trajectories, Homages and Midnight Screamings, among others.

In this new edition, the support of the National Bank of Argentina -for the fourth consecutive year- and the Cultural Institute of the Province of Buenos Aires stand out.
