THE LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEROES: THE GREAT HERO (2024)

Jin Yong novels are popular, however not to many of them have been made into films yet. In 2017 Director Tsui Hark first announced that he has plan to remake the most popular of these novels THE LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEROES which already seen several adaptations in the past, including a TV series that aired in 2017.

Director Tsui Hark plans to shot this film in a trilogy format with three separate installments with the first titled LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEROES: THE GREAT HERO. Director Tsui has been planning to make one of these novels for decades but felt that the technology was not yet ready for this but recently he confirmed that he is working on the first of the three planned films. He will also direct this first installment and more likely to also be the director for the second and the third one, but that also depends on how successful the first film is going to be.

A call for screening for actors had already been issued in 2018 but not known if anyone those actors will actually signed up especially with a likely commitment of three films.

The story:
Under the leadership of Genghis Khan, the Mongol army marched westward to defeat the Jin dynasty and then planned to head south to eliminate the Song dynasty. Skilled martial artists from various schools of the Central Plains were involved in the fierce battles. Representing the epitome of chivalry, heroes like Guo Jing gathered the strength of the martial arts community of the Central Plains to defend Xiangyang for the country and the people.

"The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Great Heroes" has selected its main actors as Xiao Zhan, Zhou Ye, Sabrina Zhuang and Feng Shaofeng. Production for the film begins on 28th May, in Yinchuan. Actor Xiao Zhan will be playing the role of the Northern Hero Guo Jing, while Sabrina Zhuang will play the female protagonist Huang Rong.

Below is the official poster released with the new announcement. The budget for the film is $400 million.
